About Me

Bob Cumberbatch

I have been researching my family history since 2000. Whilst I was born in London England, my father was born in Greenwich Village, St James, Barbados and my mother was born in Fano, Pesaro, Italy. My wife's family have ancestry in Ireland and England.

I am now conducting a surname study of every person that ever had the surname Cumberbatch or its variant spellings. This study is registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies. The primary aim of this study is to build family histories and to tell stories of the many remarkable people who had the surname Cumberbatch.

I am a member of the Society of Genealogists, a member of the Guild of One-Name Studies and an "Ancestry Advocate".

I volunteer to help others with their research. Each year I volunteer to attend the annual "Who Do You Think You Are? Live!" show where I help visitors to the Society of Genealogists' "Ask The Experts" and I specialise in Caribbean research and slave ancestry. I also help out on the Ancestry stand at the show.

In 2016 I was awarded Fellowship of the Guild of One-Name Studies becoming a Guild Master Craftsman for contributions to the promotion and understanding of one-name studies and for contributions in supporting the Guild of One-Name Studies' administration.
