 Archibald Farrington CUMBERLEGE O.B.E. was the son of Archibald Fullerton CUMBERLEGE (1844-1870) and Eliza Berges LAMB (1847?- ). He was born in August 1870 (estimated) in Bengal, India. He was baptised on 25 September 1870 in Bengal. 
Archibald was commissioned on 27 July 1889 joining as a Gentlemen Cadet, from the Royal Military Academy, to be Second Lieutenant. On 27 July 1892 he was a Lieutenant. On 9 March 1898 he lived in Bangalore, India. On 9 March 1898 he was a Lieutenant Royal Engineers in Bangalore.  Archibald Farrington Cumberlege married Beatrice Marguerite WARNER on 9 March 1898 in The Garrison Church, Bellary, India when he was 27 and she was 19. The marriage was witnessed by William Bunnatyne WARNER, W H G Manley, C W Clogstonn, K E Warner and E J F O Johnes. On 9 July 1900 he was a Captain Royal Engineers. Beatrice Marguerite WARNER and Archibald Farrington CUMBERLEGE had the following children:

• Eric Charles Warner CUMBERLEGE (1899-1970).   Eric was born on 8 August 1899 in Calcutta, India. He was baptised on 28 September 1899 in Bangalore, Madras, India. On 2 April 1911 he lived in Dursley, Gloucestershire, England. On 2 April 1911 he was a Scholar in Dursley. He married Ida HIGH on 26 August 1924 in Allahabad, Bengal, India when he was 25 and she was 21. He died in 1970.
•  Richard Arthur CUMBERLEGE (1909- ).   Richard was born on 20 December 1909 in Simla, Bengal, India. He was baptised on 30 January 1910 in Simla. He married Elizabeth A SHERIDAN Q4 1941 in Pembroke Registration District, Pembrokeshire, Wales. On 25 November 1947 he was a Chartered Accountant.

On 27 July 1909 he was a Major Royal Engineers. On 29 September 1912 he was an Army Headquarters Staff Military Works Branch Assistant Director of Military Works. Between 31 May 1915 and 4 June 1915 he was a Major Royal Engineers. Between 26 June 1915 and 25 July 1915 he was a Major Royal Engineers. Between 20 July 1915 and 18 September 1915 he was an Acting Lieutenant-Colonel Royal Engineers. On 1 January 1916 he was a Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel Royal Engineers. Between 7 April 1916 and 1 April 1917 he was a Brevet Lt.-Col. (now Colonel) A. F. Cumberlege, O.B.E., Royal Engineers, to be temporary Lt.-Colonel whilst Assistant Director-General of Military Works, India. On 26 August 1917 he was a Lieutenant Colonel Royal Engineers. On 10 April 1918 he was a Temporary Colonel whilst employed as Deputy Director-General of Military Works in India. On 3 June 1919 he was a Lt.-Col. (Temporary Colonel) Royal Engineers awarded the O.B.E. On 1 January 1920 he was a Colonel 25th Nov. 1921, with seniority 1st Jan. 1920. On 17 October 1922 he was a Colonel retires on an Indian Pension. 

On 5 May 1945 he lived in 1a Southern Road, West Southbourne, Bournemouth, Dorset, England. He died on 5 May 1945 in 3 Owls Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth, Dorset, England aged 74. He had his estate probated on 20 August 1945 in Llandudno, Wales and his effects totalling £5,167 1s 5d were granted to his wife.
