Charles Cumberpatch was born in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England in 1880. He was the son of Henry Cumberpatch and his wife Sarah nee Lovell.
Charles married Harriet Annie Stone at St Giles Church, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England on Christmas Day 1905. They had a daughter Gladys Cumberpatch born in Northampton in 1915. Charles was a Finisher in Boot Factory.
He enlisted in the army as Private 16452 of the 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment but was killed at the Somme in France on 5 June 1917. He died at 55 Casualty Clearing Station, Peronne-la-Chapelle, Somme, France. He is buried at La Chapelette British and Indian Cemetery, Peronne, Somme, France.

Pte. C Cumberpatch
The death occurred from wounds on June 5th [1917] of Pte. Charles Cumberpatch, of the Northamptons, husband of Mrs. Cumberpatch, of 18, St Edmund's Road, and third son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cumberpatch of Byfield Road, St James, Northampton. He enlisted at the outbreak of war in the 3rd Northamptons, and was transferred to a service battalion on going to France. He had previously been wounded three times, and leaves a widow and two young children.
