Duncan Spencer CUMBERLEGE was the son of Charles Farrington CUMBERLEGE (1851-1929) and Esther Faithfull FLEET (1854-1944). He was born on 3 February 1889 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England. 
On 2 April 1911 he was a Bank Clerk in Durham, England. On 25 November 1914 he was a Tea Planter aged 25.  On 7 December 1914 he became a Second Lieutenant. On 1 August 1915 he was promoted to Temporary Captain. On 7 November 1917 he was a Temporary Captain Royal Army Service Corps. On 1 September 1918 he was made a Honorary Captain Royal Army Service Corps. He was mentioned in the despatches of Sir Douglas Haig: 

War Office, 24th December, 1917.

He married Phyllis Lilian HINGE in Q2 1920 in Brentford Registration District, London, England. He witnessed the marriage of Barry Stephenson CUMBERLEGE and Lovella Louisa GILLIS on 12 June 1920 in St Barnabas Church, Kensington, London, England. In 1921 he lived in 129 The Grove, Ealing, London, England. Phyllis Lilian HINGE (also known as Phyllis Lilian CUMBERLEGE) was born on 5 April 1895. In 1935 she lived in 129 The Grove. She died Q3 1983 in Henley Registration District. CUMBERLEGE, Mrs. Phyllis L. Exhibited 1931-5 Miniature Portrait Painter.

  • Pamela Faithful CUMBERLEGE (1922- ).   Pamela was born Q3 1922 in Brentford Registration District. On 12 April 1941 she was a WOMEN'S AUXILIARY AIR FORCE Assistant Section Officer 895648 Aircraftwoman 1st Class Pamela Faithfull CUMBERLEGE (1815) 12 Apr 1941. On 1 July 1942 she was a WOMEN'S AUXILIARY AIR FORCE P. F. CUMBERLEGE (1815) to be Section Officer (war subs.). She married Wlodzimierz E KARWOWSKI Q1 1944 in Brentford Registration District.

On 16 November 1939 Duncan was a Pilot Officer 76073 on probation. On 11 June 1940 he was granted the rank of Pilot Officer 76073. On 1 January 1944 he was promoted to Temporary Squadron Leader in ADMINISTRATIVE AND SPECIAL DUTIES BRANCH. On 22 April 1944 he was a Flight Lieutenant (temp. Squadron Leader) and he resigned commission and retained rank of Sqadron Leader. He died Q2 1975 in Henley Registration District, Oxfordshire, England.
