Edwin Arthur Cumberledge was born Q3 1885 in Portfield, Chichester, Sussex, England. He was baptised on 18 October 1885 in All Saints Church, Portfield, Sussex, England. He was the son of George Cumberledge and his wife Harriett Maria nee Brooker. Edwin joined the army becoming Private 1753 in the 1st Battalion Hampshire Yeomanry (Carabiniers). He became Private 204732 in the 15th Battalion Hampshire Regiment.
Edwin was killed in action in France on 9 August 1918 aged 32. He is buried at La Clytte Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Edwin was awarded the British War and Victory medals. Administration with will of Edwin Arthur Cumberledge was granted at Chichester on 24 October 1918 to Harriett Maria Cumberledge the wife of George Cumberledge. His effects totalled £120 13s 3d.
