Frederick Roland Cumberbirch was born in Q1 1882 in Normanton, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of John Cumberbirch and his wife Eliza Catherine nee Bond. Frederick was baptised in Normanton Church, Normanton, Yorkshire, England on 25 January 1882.

Frederick enlisted into the army on 15th April 1915. He became Private 23673 in the Grenadier Guard Reserve. He was discharged on 18th May 1917 being medically unfit for service. He was suffering with Colitis, an inflammation of the colon.

Frederick Roland Cumberbirch was the executor of the estate of his mother Eliza Catherine Cumberbirch of York House, Normanton, Yorkshire widow who died 15 April 1921.
