Notes - He was baptised in the old All Saints Church which was destroyed by a fire following a service on 30th December 1883. The fire engine took 45 minutes to reach the scene from 7 miles away but there was little that could be done as the fire took hold very quickly. The heat from the fire was so great that it melted the church bells. The melted metal was salvaged and used to construct the new bells for the new All Saints Church. The foundation stone for the new church was laid on 16th July 1884 and the church was consecrated by the Bishop of St. Albans in June 1885, just 11 months later.
He was 79 when he died and was buried in the 'new' All Saints Church in the village centre of East Hanningfield. - Case
