  • Notes
    • Bernard was freckled, red haired and mischievious according to my grandma, and loved teasing his little sister. We [Len Kling] have one picture of him, taken with his dog Brownie. A custom at Halloween was to peel apples and take care to make the peeling as long as possible - then the peel was cast over the shoulder and the shape of whatever letter it took was the initial of who the person would marry. Bernard's peeling fell into the shape of a D and he exclaimed "D! Death!" It was just shortly after this he died of a burst appendix, and because of this my grandmother would never allow anyone in her family to talk about death, or of dying.

Note in the back of Bernard's New Testament, given to him by "His loving teacher, Miss Mershin. Christmas, 1908."

"Bernard C. Abraham Who Departed This Life on The 7th of Nov - 1910
"A Prechious one from us has gone
A Voice we loved is stilled
A place left vacant in our harts
Which Never can be filled." His Father
