Harry Cumberlidge was born 10 September 1897 in Chadderton near Oldham, Lancashire, England. He was the son of Walter Cumberlidge and his wife Mary nee Butterworth.

Harry joined the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment as Private 33997 on 1 June 9116 and he served overseas. He was injured and discharged, for medical reasons, on 17 September 1918.

He married Jane Elizabeth Slater in Oldham shortly after being discharged. They had two children together:

  • Harry Cumberlidge born 1919
  • Dennis William Cumberlidge born 4 April 1922.

Harry died on 1 April 1973 and his wife had died in 1952.
