John Augustus Cumberledge 1857-1931

Major Territorial Force Royal Garrison Artillery – Cornwall

John Augustus Cumberledge was born in 1857 in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, England. He was the son of John Cumberledge and his wife Sarah nee Gamble. John married Mary Saxby McKay on 14 Dec 1884 in Rumboldswyke, Sussex, England. Thyye had two children:

By 1901 he was the headmaster of a school in St Austell, Cornwall. John Augustus was an officer in the Territorial Force. He was promoted to Major on 4th December 1908 and was awarded the Territorial Decoration in 1917.
