Malgar De Rudestan Brigham Cumberbeach was born in Manchester, Lancashire, England on 23 June 1874. He was the son of Alfred Cumberbeach and his wife Alice nee Cumberbeach. He initially attended St Matthew’s School, Westminster, London, England but shortly afterwards moved to Kenmont Gardens School, Valliere Road, Hammersmith, London, England when the family moved into 13 Waldo Road, Hammersmith.
Malgar was 10 when his father Alfred Cumberbeach died in Oldham, Lancashire. Malgar was a blacksmith by 1891.
Malgar married Martha Little on 16 February 1901 in St Matthew’s Church, Chadderton, Lancashire, England. Together they had:
