William George Cumberlidge 1892-1982 Acting Corporal 0891 Royal Army Veterinary Corps
William George Cumberlidge was born on 20 October 1895 in Tunstall in Staffordshire, England. He was a son of Edwin George Cumberlidge and his wife Maria nee Hines.
By 1911 he was an apprentice grocer working with his father. William joined the army on 10 March 1915 and rose to the rank of Acting Corporal TT/0891 in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. He was discharged for medical reasons on 29 December 1917. He was awarded the Silver War Badge on discharge.
William married Doris Marsh in 1923 in Staffordshire, England. They had a daughter Joyce M C Cumberlidge born in 1926. William was a clerk working for an insurance company by 1939.
William’s wife Doris died in 1965 and he married Gertie Brown. William died in 1982 and his wife Gertie remarried.
