Private 97417 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters – The Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment
Douglas Edwin Cumberlidge was born on 30 December 1898 in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. He was the youngest son of Edwin George Cumberlidge and his wife Maria nee Hines.
Douglas joined the 1st Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters, The Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment becoming Private 97417.
He married Emily Jackson in 1928 at the Methodist Church, Wesley Place, Tunstall in Staffordshire.They had two children:
- Douglas J Cumberlidge born 1932
- Anne M Cumberlidge born 1936
Douglas died 17 April 1988 whilst living at The Meadows Residential Care Home, Wrenbury Crescent, Berry Hill, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. His wife had predeceased him by two years.
