Francis Bernard Cumberlidge was born on 28 February 1898 in Walsall, Staffordshire, England. He was the eldest son of Harry Charles Cumberlidge and his wife Harriet Martha nee Jenkins.
He joined the Army Reserves on 6 June 1916. He joined the 4th Battalion The Royal Warwickshire Regiment as Private 58377 on 29 June 1918. He was transferred on 25 October 1918 as Private 59285 1/8th Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment shortly after he arrived in France with the Expeditionary Force in France. He was transferred to the Army Reserve on 29 March 1919 and discharged on demobilization on 31 March 1920.
Bernard married Annie May Franklin in 1927 and they had a son Bernard Cumberlidge born 19 February 1930.
Bernard was an Electrician in a Steel Rolling Mill in 1939. He died in 1958 in St Chads Hospital, Birmingham. His wife died two years later.
