James Leonard Cumberlidge was born in Q4 1893 in Holmes Chapel, Church Hulme, Cheshire, England. He was baptised on 3 December 1893 in Church Hulme, Cheshire, England. He was the eldest son of James Cumberlidge and his wife Mary Ellen nee Clegg. James Leonard joined WW1 as Private 3239 in the East Lancashire Regiment and arrived in Egypt on 18 July 1915. He was transferred to become Private 142891 in the 58th Battalion of the Machine Gun Corps. James Leonard was killed in action on 31 August 1918 in France. He is commemorated at the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
