Philip Cumberbatch was born on 17 Jun 1899 at Fenton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England but was baptised on 27 Aug 1902 at Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England. He was the son of Elisha Cumberbatch and his wife Sarah nee Willey.
He enlisted in the Army on 9th November 1917 and became Private 154825 in the Machine Gun Corps. He was discharged on 14th February 1919 as being surplus to military requirements (having suffered impairment since entry into the service) under King's Regulations Para 392 (XVIa).
He married Sarah Livesey Hartley in 1925 and they had a son Ian Cumberbatch in 1927. Philip became a water rates collector.
Philip of 112 Carr Head Lane Poulton-le-Fylde Lancashire died on 17 October 1960 and Administration of his estate was granted at Lancaster on 7 December 1960 to Sara Livesey CUMBERBATCH widow. Effects £3,387 19s 1d. His wife died in 1981.
