John was admitted to the Moxham Military Convalescent Hospital (MCH) at Camp Hill, Sydney, Halifax, Nova Scotia for 16 days between 17 December 1918 and 3 January 1919 suffering with gastritis.
CONDITION On ADMISSION and PROGRESS of CASE
Complaint – Pain in stomach after eating & in left side
Previous Health: Typhoid fever 4 yrs ago. From which he fully recovered in action five months. Kicked over left side 2 years ago from which he gets pain in side. Has complained of dull pain every year since after eating a heavy meal for last three months. Has vomited on own… Vomiting appeared normal. For about two months before entrance to Hospital bowels were inordinately constipated & required ¬laxatives. Pain in side is noticed after much walking or exertion.
Patient is well nourished & developed. Afibrile & pulse normal. Tongue is potulons? & thickly covered with whitish tar. Absence of pretty nearly all teeth. Chest examination is suggestive. Slight generalized tenderness over epigastrium on deep palpation. Stomach is normal. Position – no distension.
Family History: Bowels have been regular without use of laxatives since admittance to hospital. No abnormality over region [of] chest where pain is complained & under dental treatment.
CONDITION OF DISEASE Improved. Discharged to unit. To report for Dental Treatment. 31 Dec 1918
